Charge an iPod with Vodka?
SHANGHAI, CHINA, September 1, 2008. Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies has launched what it calls the fuel cell industry’s first direct ethanol product.
The Bio Energy Diversity Kit is a simple educational kit, which features a fuel cell powered desktop fan that uses 10% ethanol and 90% water as fuel.
According to the company, its direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFC) can generate small amounts of power for days or weeks at a time using simple household alcohol, such as diluted vodka, and plain water.
The DEFCs could be used for a wide range of small devices that would benefit from significantly more runtime than current batteries can provide, including iPods and mobile phones.
Horizon’s direct ethanol fuel cells are already available on the market.
